JUST GOT YOUR BRACES PUT ON?

You are in a high maintenance phase! Your new wire may start to poke the back of your mouth after a few weeks.

NEED HELP WITH YOUR BRACES?

If you can make it to the office right away…please call us. It only takes a few seconds and we can always work you in even in the busiest of schedules. The goal is to not cause delay in your treatment.

NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE IT TO OUR OFFICE?

Here are a few ideas you can try to help get you comfortable:
  • LOOSE BAND OR BRACKET ~ If band or bracket is still attached to wire, leave in place. If it is uncomfortable, try to place wax on it. If it comes out completely, wrap band or bracket in tissue and bring it in with you to your repair appointment.
  • POKING WIRE ~ Place wax until you come in to repair appointment. If it is a weekend try clipping wire with fingernail or cuticle clippers. Careful to bring the clipped portion out of the mouth.
  • LOST TIEWIRE OR ELASTIC TIE ~ Call our office to notify us. We may want to see you soon or we may wait until your regular scheduled appointment. Let us decide please!
  • SORENESS ~ Use Tylenol or Ibuprofen every six hours until soreness is gone
  • HEADGEAR DOES NOT FIT OR COMING LOOSE ~ If facebow (metal portion) is bent or popping out while sleeping , stop wearing and call our office at once.
  • LOOSE EXPANDER APPLIANCE ~ If appliance is loose, sticking or poking, place wax on it and call our office. This problem will need to be addressed ASAP.
  • SPACER COMES OUT ~ Call our office to schedule a time to come in to replace. If a spacer comes out on a weekend, call us on the next business day.
IT'S UP TO YOU TO MAKE SURE YOUR BRACES STAY CLEAN!
  • FLOSSING
Insert floss behind wire, using floss threaders as shown at braces appointment. Gently clean sides of teeth and under gums with an up-and-down motion. Floss between all teeth once a day.
  • BRUSHING
~ Brush 3 times a day; morning, noon, and bedtime. Using tooth timer, brush with soft circular motions, making sure to massage the gums as well.
~ Brush under, above, behind and around ALL surfaces of the teeth and braces.
~ Use proxy (mini) brush to clean under your wire and next to all your brackets and bands.
~ Inspect: look for plaque and debris left behind. If any, re-brush.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU STILL SEE YOUR DENTIST FOR A CHECK UP AND CLEANING EVERY SIX MONTHS!
